SANTA CLARA, Calif.--S3 Inc. here today announced an Internet set-top box
alliance with Ravisent Technologies Inc. of Malvern, Pa. In the second half of
2000, the two companies plan to introduce a new set-top box to give televisions
full Internet functionality, based on hardware from S3 and software from Ravisent.

"This low-cost, easy-to-use set-top box has the power to bring a new segment of
consumers online, allowing consumers to access the Internet and surf the Web
without a computer," said Frank Wilde, chief executive officer of Ravisent. "Within
a short period of time, we expect to have this device on retail shelves and be able
to offer a unique alternative to PC-based Internet solutions."

The partnership is part of S3's efforts to create a broad range of Internet
appliances under the Diamond Multimedia name brand, said Ken Potashner,
chairman and CEO of the Santa Clara company.
