**OT**Intel Launches E-biz Program in India

[February 16, 2000--MUMBAI] Chipmaker Intel Corp. has announced the launch of its e-business solutions provider (eBSP) program in India to provide infrastructure and training to enable solutions providers to take their customers' businesses to the Web.

The eBSP program is an initiative to bring together e-business developers from across India to establish a team of experts who can advise and integrate solutions based on Intel architecture.

"The Internet is important and so is e-business," said Sean Maloney, Intel's senior vice president and director of sales and marketing. "Until a few years ago, there were few companies doing e-biz over the Net, but that number is on the rise and even Intel does most of its business through the Net."

According to Maloney, the thrust of the eBSP program is to get the best solutions available on Intel architecture.

"If you buy an Intel-based machine, its main benefit, versus a proprietary system, is that it is open," he explained. "The danger of a proprietary machine is that you're blocked in for the next 15 years; so we want to get as many different solutions on the Intel architecture as possible," he added.

In a bid to spread itself across the Internet, the company has divided its business into four areas: client platform, server platform, networking and communication, and solutions and services.

Developer support to the eBSPs will include access to online resources targeted at software developers. Intel will also dedicate engineering and marketing staff to provide latest information on tools and software.

Intel India is seeking to work with a total of 100 eBSPs by the end of the year. The company expects to achieve a sales growth of 20-30 percent this year.

For the Indian market, Intel expects to make strategic investments through joint ventures in the coming months, as well as develop the Internet economy.

The eBSP plan will be launched shortly in Europe and America as well.
