In the silicon valley NOBODY with a clue works just for
salary. stock options is a major part of people's
compensation package. stock options that can appreciate
into many millions of $$ is the big carrot used by
successful mature companies like CSCO, MSFT and SUNW, the
recent start-ups like BRCD, AKAM and JNPR, and by the pre-
ipo start-ups. when the company's financial outlooks turns
really sour and the hope for big gains from stock options
grants fade, people leave for greener pastures. it's not
just top management who benefits from the stock gains, it's
everyone from receptionists and up.

So now, you're saying the avg. peon worker is not
going to sell and continue to work earning 25 - 45K/year?
