QB Miller re-signed

Quarterback Jim Miller, who was suspended four games by the NFL in December for violating the league policy on anabolic steroids and related substances, Thursday agreed to terms on a contract with the Bears. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. ... Phillip Daniels, the free-agent defensive end who led Seattle with nine sacks last season, signed with the Bears on Saturday. Daniels agreed to a five-year contract worth $25 million, including an $8 million signing bonus. The 6-foot-5, 284-pound former Georgia star had 45 tackles and a forced fumble in 1999. He has increased his sack total in each of his four NFL seasons. "I think Chicago is a great city," Daniels said during a news conference at Halas Hall. "I came here to play last year when I was at Seattle and I told a friend I might be coming here next year. I don't know what made me say that, but I had a feeling this team would be looking at ends and I might be coming here." The Bears also agreed to a 5-year, $22.5 million deal with Bills cornerback Thomas Smith. The deal includes a $6.5 million signing bonus. "We feel we got two of the best players available in Thomas and Phillip," Bears vice president of player personnel Mark Hatley said. "Both of them wanted to be here and signing them is a big plus on what we have been working on over the past couple of years." ... The Bears continued their busy offseason, signing free-agent defensive end Chris Mims to a one-year contract. The Bears also signed cornerback Todd McMillon to a two-year deal. He has spent the last three seasons in the Canadian Football League, playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
