>>Keyes had a good point here that it was needed as a deterrent (jury still out on that from what I have read, crack heads usually don't give much thought as to if they are going to get the death penalty if they off some dude for enough cash for the next rock).<<

The jury will forever be out on this because it is impossible to collect statistics on "murders not committed because the assailant feared the death penalty." We have to go with our gut on this one. Given how hard the vast majority of convicts fight to avoid the death penalty, I would think it is a deterrent....

Thurston,

Ok, I see what you are saying about what Bush had to say about the death penalty. I was not giving King my full attention at that point, so I did not hear the "In light of Il." Governor Bush may not have understood it either, seemed at times he jumped at the questions too fast. He has taken a LOT of heat over his execution record, but I will give him this. At least to this point he has not found a way to declare some sort of moratorium on execution, in light of his bid to become POTUS.

As far as my feelings about the death penalty in TX., as much as I dislike the attitude of Jesse Ventura, I like what he said in an interview , He said he was glad he did not have to make any final decisions on the issue, as Minnesota does not have the death penalty. It cannot be an easy thing.

As far as tax plans, you are correct. All the candidates can "say" this and that, but the reality may be completely different once they are in office.

What I was saying on projecting the vote this weekend, I was saying Keyes 4%, Bush and McCain fairly even. (Am I misunderstanding something? Do the people that vote Republican in the primary now, have to vote Rep. in the general election?)
