my intention here is to respond to both Bosco and telcomguy, so since yours is the later post:
of course what we here write means nothing to mr roth, however:
the old saying "shoemaker stick to your last" is old because it's great common sense. a specialist in his own field will always knock off a generalist. remember how badly the conglomerates did? note how many floundering giants are cured by a bright guy who comes in and sells off all the adventitious roots and gets back to "our core competency". george gilder, no dummy, oft talks of the real money to be made by the "dumb" network. let everyone else develop and fight over the winning applications. just be sure they all travel over your network because it works so well and is so cheap. if you have your own applications, they'll all run off to the guy that doesn't try to force you to use his applications.
i think think this'll cost us stockholders plenty in time, unless they stop and get back to their core competency.
