Hello Kenneth,

> Do your parents still have their POTS phone?

Yep ... they used to have two lines - home and office - but got rid of the office line when they got the cable modem.

> And who is their service provider?

POTS = PacBell
Cable = AT&T/Excite@Home

> And why?

So the "calls" that they are plying with for phone using Microsoft NetMeeting do not completely replace the POTS telephone ... and they are *not* real technical people.

I don't believe that these products have yet replaced the POTS phone yet ... but simply provided another way to communicate with Internet connected friends. Even if they were to use DialPad ( dialpad.com ) for all outgoing calls, DialPad doesn't provide any *incoming* call support ...

The main point that I was amazed by was that people in my family that I use as a "reference point" are now starting to play with voice and video over the net. To me, this is a big deal ...

(As a follow on ... my sister and her husband got his brother (and family) to download NetMeeting ... his brother doesn't have any camera, but they were able to get a call going with voice and one-way video ... I'm impressed ...)
