Beau Canada Participates in Significant Slave Point Gas Discovery
12:34 Thursday, February 17, 2000

CALGARY, ALBERTA--Beau Canada Exploration Ltd., with its partners, Murphy Oil Company Ltd. and Apache
Canada Ltd., have made a significant gas discovery in the Ladyfern area of northeast British Columbia and the South
Hamburg area of northwest Alberta. Beau Canada has a 30 percent interest in the joint wells and lands.

To date, two successful Slave Point gas wells have been drilled, with one of the discovery wells production tested at rates
in excess of 31 mmcf/d. The second well, after initially testing gas from the Slave Point, is currently being completed and
stimulated prior to production testing. These two wells are approximately 10 kilometres apart. Two follow-up locations
are being drilled on separate structures, with results expected in early March. Beau Canada and its partners control over
10,000 hectares of land on this prospect.

Along with the drilling activity, efforts are underway to construct a 25 kilometre pipeline to tie-in the successful Ladyfern
well(s) into Beau Canada's Chinchaga pipeline which crosses the British Columbia-Alberta border and connects to the
Nova pipeline system. The South Hamburg well(s) will be tied-in the Nova pipeline directly. Pipelining is expected to be
completed before spring break-up. This activity is expected to significantly impact Beau Canada's 2000 production, cash
flow and reserve additions.

These discoveries are part of Beau Canada's Slave Point exploration program in the area. Beau Canada has an additional
23,000 net hectares of land outside of the joint Ladyfern/South Hamburg project.

A 154 square kilometre 3-D seismic program is currently being shot to evaluate a portion of these land holdings and prior
to spring break-up the Company will be participating in another Slave Point exploratory well in the nearby Chinchaga area
of northeast British Columbia.

Encouraging results from drilling to date at Ladyfern and South Hamburg, combined with Beau Canada's significant land
position, will ensure ongoing exploration and development activity for a number of years to come.

Beau Canada Exploration Ltd. is a Canadian oil and gas exploration and development company based in Calgary. Beau
Canada's common shares are listed on The Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "BAU".
