Qualcomm co-founder and vice chairman to retire
SAN DIEGO, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Mobile phone technology company Qualcomm Inc. (NasdaqNM:QCOM - news) said on Thursday that co-founder and Vice Chairman Andrew Viterbi would retire next month when he turns 65.

The company said in a statement that Viterbi would stay on the board of directors.

Viterbi ``intends to broaden his scope of interests, devoting more time as an adviser to government, academia and the investment community,' the company said.

Viterbi served as Qualcomm's chief technical officer from July 1985 through July 1996.

He is a member of both the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering and is a member of President Clinton's Information Technology Advisory Committee and the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California
