NOVL opens at 41 3/4

The key will be keeping the further gains. A typical pattern would be the stock trading up wildly in pre-earnings speculation today. That would be followed by a sell off from whatever highs are reached this afternoon. Then comes a possible post earnings correction.

Now what would keep the gains would be some indication from Schmidt that e-directory and i-chain are being adopted by enterprises. If there was some indication that directory apps revenue will grow substantially this year that would be enough. That could also be indicated by services revenue growth which would show preping businesses for the move into internet directories this year. This whole area of the internet expansion of brick and mortar enterprises through the use of directory technology is the gold mine from which Novell will derive much higher levels of revenue. Any indication of the dimensions of this revenue stream will propel NOVL higher.

Other elements of Novell's business that could sustain higher price levels include an expansion into internet file and data storage, and projections of the size of Novell's caching appliance business and prospects.
