CORL short/ INPR Long is an arbitrage play to grab the buck and half difference between the merger value of the stocks. CORL will go back up once there are no more shares to short or merger takes place, or once the arbitrage closes.

Is Intel Doing an End-Run Around Microsoft?

I found the link to this story on the Linux Stocktalk at Sillicon investor.

Well this has been my belief for some time. I believe that humans at Intel remember being
treated by the highhand of msft but making money is agnostic and they went along. But
Intel is an engineering company and Engineers would prefer to be supporting the best of
tech. Intel was though really independent of msft but msft piggy evolution created more
demand for Intel's latest. The current internet related applications are creating their own
demand and intel is getting more independent of msft and in fact web serving, content
creation are big compute demand growth areas. Nt and win2000 will not I believe scale well
where the internet is going. The main stream companies supporting Linux
development, SGI, Ibm, Hp will greatly increase the bang of Linux. The Sgi out of the box
cluster is a prime example of new COTS scalability of Linux.

So now msft is more dependent on intel.

NEW TOPIC and why I'm really writing.
Well now there is another new key application available for Linux.

On Friday I was emailed by John Busby from iqc

iqchart.com So now iqchart is now available for operation under
Linux. This allows realtime data and charting with technical indicators. On my multidisplay
multidesktop Linux boxes this is fantastic.

But I also learned some other related Linux news while attempting to install iqchart. I still run
Redhat 5.2 on my main machine. iqchart first release uses glibc which became standard in
redhat 6.

So I had a redhat 6.1 cd that I picked up for 2 bucks at the Linux Bazaar weeks back. I
installed the 6.1 but made a mistake that I didnot realize and I could not get intstall up with
gui and networking. So I decided to reinstall but dropped the damn cd and it chipped or
scratched
and I could nolonger use it. I decided to download a redhat iso file. My first attempt (from
redhat) over night failed and I was in my second attempt (from slackware cdrom.com which
was faster than redhat) when Idecided to call my good friend Hal the former Man of watman
associates. I had a long conversation with Hal, he's a walk on water programmer. I got a
good overview of java/jre compatibilty issues as
well as libc glibc considerations. Then we started discussing distributions and Hal said he
had changed from using Redhat to Mandrake as Mandrake was redhat plus. He also said

"Ya know redhat is getting bigger and like msft they seem to be including less and less with
current distributions. You know they no longer include xv. Mandrake had more applications
and a better install."

Now this conversation was very fortuitous as only being 2 hours into a 4 hour redaht iso
download I realized I also had a 6.1 Mandrake 2 buck cdrom.

So what happened.

So 12 minutes to install mandrake.
5 minutes to install AcceleratedX. Multidisplay based on libc
5 minutes to config multidisplay and install users.
2 minutes to ftp to acute and get the iqc tgz files (my local redhat
5.2)
10 seconds to install (tar xzvf ....)
1 minute to figure out how to start (put the bin in my path)
3 minutes to remember my password. (Well I turned 50 today)

iqchart for linux is up and running.

So to me the moral of this story is Redhat may have a very difficult time creation a revenue
stream that will support their current stock price.

Also Mandrake is an execellent distribution.

This week I going to put together a p3 650e system. This system will have 512 of memory. I
decided to upgrade as I'm going to try to use wmware to run a win 98 vitual machine within
Linux. As I trade with fidelity and their active trader uses IE only. I'm going to try to get all
things trading into one machine. I will also set this machine up to run 4 displays.

Boy this tech is fun... or is it painful.
