for 1999 nt lost 15 US cents a share, and bce is spinning off .78 share per bce share. for 1999 bce earned a bit over $3US a share, so - limiting our earnings component to 1999 earnings - spinning off the 15ct loss increases 1999 BCE earnings by 12ct (.78 x 15cts). so BCE 1999 earnings ex-NT
is still more a bit over $3.
Mr or Ms Hopeful has been given (as i was) the wrong bce earnings by perhaps Reuters (as i was). earlier on this thread you'll see an exchange between Greg (i think) and me about this. he had the right $3 figure, i found after i checked many sources.

Here's how I did my math. First of all, I have several sets of numbers for bce & NT earnings in the last 4 Q's. Please tell me if I did this wrong.

quote.yahoo.com
If I use yahoo's (as above), (all in us$) I get BCE 5.78, NT (0.15).

If I use TD waterhouse, I get BCE 5.93, NT (0.15)

Jack's number is $3 (I'm not sure where this is from, but I assume US GAAP treatment is different, so let's use it).

If I use this, then I get a much higher number, so I doubt if it is correct.
siliconinvestor.multexinvestor.com

Each BCE gets 0.78 (subject to adjustments) NT.

Closing Price Feb17th 2000 is ::
NT :: 123.4375
BCE :: 122.5

BCE (ex-NT) = 122.5 - 0.78*(123.4375) = 26.21875.

Based on today's closing price...

Here's the BCE (ex-NT) Earnings based on the three numbers :
Yahoo : 5.78 + (0.78*0.15)= 5.90
TDW : 5.93 + (0.78*0.15) = 6.05
Jack : 3 + (0.78*0.15) = 3.12

Here's the BCE (ex-NT) P/E
Yahoo : 4.4
TDW : 4.33
Jack : 8.40

P/E is < 10, whichever way you look at it.
