Robert,
>Biotechs shine, but Dow does pratfall
Several S.D. stocks, 2 indexes set records

Biotechnology stocks continued their tremendous upward surge yesterday, despite weakness in the rest of the market, as investors continued to shift unprecedented amounts of money into the sector.

Both of the major indexes that track biotech stocks reached new highs, as did shares of several San Diego biotechs, as the sector continued a run in which many companies have doubled or tripled in value since December.

"People are looking for what's next. And they've noticed biotechnology -- partly because it has the word 'technology' in it," said Leonard Gross, a fund manager with Crimson BioMedical. "We are finally beginning to see the enormous payoff."

Other sectors didn't fare as well.
