Wafa-

This is from yesterday's Briefing.com. The timing couldn't be more perfect, with the company doing the road show in Europe now.

Note how they list AMSC as a competitor of SCON. Rather ironic, don't you think, that we're seeing tremendous gains from a company that makes (among other things) wire...fueled by traders who think they're making a secondary play in the wireless sector.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

Day Trader : The hot money is steadily making its way down the wireless food chain. The latest band of stocks to benefit from this industry fixation fall into the Electronic Instruments & Controls Manufacturers category. Santa Barbara, CA-based Superconductor Technologies Inc. (SCON 40 1/8 +9 1/4) has piloted the advance over the past two sessions, rallying as much as 250% from its Tuesday closing price of $13.125. Run in stock was set in motion yesterday by announcement that company received purchase orders for 27 SuperFilter Systems from a cellular service provider. In a placid market, announcement maybe good for a one point increase in the stock. But with Russell rallying (+10.3% year-to-date) and investors/traders beating the bushes for the next Qualcomm (QCOM) or Puma Tech (PUMA), news has been good for a $210 mln bolt in SCON's market capitalization over the past two sessions. The run in Superconductor Tech has attracted attention to the group as a whole, contributing to advances in the shares of competitors Conductus (CDTS 31 5/8 +3 7/8) and American Superconductor (AMSC 41 15/16 +5 5/8), ferrying both issues to new 52-week highs. Even bulletin board traded stock, Illinois Superconductor (ISCO 8 7/8 +2 13/64), has benefitted from the momentum... Superconductor Tech designs subsystems that incorporate high-temperature superconducting materials and cryogenic technologies. The company's primary product line, the SuperFilter system, is a front-end filter and amplifier system designed to improve the performance of wireless telecommunications base stations. In August 1999, the company entered into a long-term sales agreement with cellular systems company United States Cellular (USM) for a minimum purchase of 100 SuperFilter systems by December 31, 2000. SCON anticipates U.S. Cellular purchasing a minimum of an additional 400 SuperFilter systems by August 27, 2004... Earnings estimates not available, as no analysts follow the stock. - DS
