superficial run: superconducting has applications for both 2g and 3g; both serve primarily two different propositions

for 2g (applies to CDMA as well) one benefit is that the improved signal filtering helps increase the signal thereby increasing the potential range. given narrowband propensity toward propogation problems, or signal loss or interference, it helps decrease such problems. improving the range decreases the number of needed cell sites or base stations per cell.

for 3g it performs the above but also assists in reducing heat generation per physical form factor.

most are developed for base stations specific application only. if applied to 3g based handsets the obvious compounding of need increases. cost and especially size may be prohibitive currently for handset application. the filter is about the size of a pc hard drive.

as for "thick vs thin"; they've given us no report on that as yet other than potential cost differences. US Cellular went with SCON's thin film model if that tell's you anything. they stated that they reviewed other forms. possibly though, they were probably sold on the thin form originally. they put it through their rigorous testing and decided SCON's model worked well. so they ordered more 27 more "superfilters".
