Steve - RE: "Went to Best Buy at lunch, guess what I saw?

HP 9694C Athlon 800"

Great! That shows HP IS offering the Athlon as a high-end option. Previously, all they had were K6-2 500s and Athlon 700s and below. HP has a very strong retail presence, right next to Compaq.

Now that HP seems to be committed to Athlons, like Compaq has been for some time, the Athlon will be able to gain even more new sales.

Lets see, eMachines is the only hold out for Athlons in retail. And I REALLY DO NOT want to see an Athlon based eMachine. Yeech! Just thinking about it is pretty disgusting. ;)

eMachines will probably put use Spitfire if they ever use an Athlon derivative.

I wonder what IBM has in store for their revamped direct home PC line.

Steve Re <<HP 9694C Athlon 800 at BestBuy>>

Very good news Steve, thank you.

HP is doing great in the consumer market and having HP in the largest US retail chain is indeed a great news.

This quarter is more than half over. When are we going to get the next warning for upside surprise? The street is still expecting $0.33 which is less than last quarter. Also for the first time in a very long time, more than 1/2 of analyst rate AMD a buy or a strong buy :)
