N.Y. adds $15 million for 300-mm facility in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York announced it will spend an additional $15 million to help set up a development pilot line for 300-mm wafer processing at a technology center operated by the State University of New York at Albany. The investment brings total funding available for the facility to $28 million.

New York's state government has already provided $10 million for construction of the pilot-line facility at SUNY Albany's Center for Advanced Technology, which is housed in the Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology Management. An additional $3 million has been raised from other sources.

The facility will help chip makers test and trouble-shoot 300-mm equipment. The facility will also serve as "incubation space" for small high-technology companies and be used for training.
