U.S. Options - International FiberCom vols high

CHICAGO, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Implied volatility and volume
swelled on the options of International FiberCom Inc.
(NasdaqNM:IFCI - news) on Thursday as the stock of the fiber optic cable services company firmed, traders said.

Implied volatility of the March 20 calls stood at around 120 percent, an increase of about 20 to 25
percent in value over the last few days, said a designated primary market maker at the Chicago Board Options Exchange.

The market maker noted that the stock shot up almost $8 in two days. International FiberCom closed at 20-13/16 on Wednesday, dramatically up from a Feb. 14 close of 15-14/16.

On Thursday, ``it's been all public paper from both buyers and sellers. I'm seeing mostly selling calls,'he said.

As of 10:23 a.m. CST (1623 GMT), March 20 calls were up 1/4 at 3-7/8 on CBOE volume of 50 and open interest of 980.

March puts firmed 1/16 to 2-1/16 on volume of 12 and open interest of 79.

Total options volume as of early Thursday was about 819 contracts, comprising 778 calls and 41
puts.

On Wednesday, 3,992 contracts changed hands, of which 3,784 were calls and 208 were puts,
above the average daily volume of 1,415.

Shares of the Arizona-based company rose 1 to 21-13/16 on Nasdaq volume of 1.4 million.
