Katherine,

AMAT in their CC said DRAM as a % of revenues was 24%, somewhat low by historical standards but then we are witnessing much greater levels of spending for broadband, wireless, and internet. However, with many companies now outsourcing to foundries, could the actual DRAM % not properly be reflected by these numbers? Do you know if AMAT takes DRAM produced in foundries into account when coming up with their numbers? This is a new trend and if not properly delineated, it may make historical comparisons a moot point.

TIA,

Brian

Katherine,

Infineon made that claim about 6 months ago. Surely you don't believe that Infineon and its suppliers have done absolutely nothing to improve yield since then.

Is "yield" not another of those closely guarded strategic secrets?

Ian.

...although Infineon claims
they have "200mm equivalent yield" out of the Semiconductor300 pilot line. I.e. they get as many good chips from a 300mm wafer as they
would expect to get from a 200mm.)

wow.. what a HUGE push of buying after lunch... didn't even dip towards eod... anyone think that $200 will be tested tomorrow or next week??

someone mentioned the last split before 98.. yes this stock dipped just a few days before.. but the market is a whole new beast now.. and so is AMAT.. we cant runup 5 to 15pts everyday between now and the split on 3/15... but wondering with this much buying whether or not we can bush $200..

if we bust $200.. I think we'll see those $240 to $250 targets very soon.. post split that adjusts to $120/share and I'll bet there's a good number of folks that'd buy at that level that might not be buying now..

be fun to see what kind of institutional buying occured today; oh and dont forget tomorrow is options expiration day.. wish I knew the history of how AMAT performs on options friday -- anyone??

whew.. lots of questions. any experience long wanna wrassle with these thoughts?
