I know most of you on this thread have been here a long time and have been invested in AMAT for years. By now you must be very wealthy.(VBG)

Personally I cannot believe the price of AMAT is now this high. Just a quick look back shows that AMAT has gone from $4.1 bil to $4.8 bil in revenue '96 thru '99 (4 years), or 17% growth total. Also, AMAT has earned $1.63 in '96 to $1.84 in '99, a 12% growth total. Okay, but not great. However the price per share has gone from $20 to $188 (adjusted for splits) which is 840% growth.

If I were considering buying into AMAT at these levels, what reasons could anyone give me to do so? Does anyone think that the price will continue to escalate at this rate or even at half this rate, or is the down side risk of a price correction (not revenue correction) as real as it seems. Also, does anyone think that the slow 4 year growth relative to price increase has been an anamoly and that revenue growth will substantially out perform the historic 4% year over year. As in 10-25%, or greater to catch up to the price growth.

TIA,

Hdr
