<<It would destroy all of their efforts, to date, to send this nation barreling down the hill to chaos >> ....Oh yeah, that's creditable alright.......Those "wicked " liberals are at it again!

I hadn't thought about it as a good vs. evil thing, but then again I can't disagree that it exists.

It may actually be more complex, haqi. When I was in college, I discovered that I was drinking more than I cared to, and therefore resolved not to drink unless it was a special occasion, or would be rude to refuse. If I had to drink, I would nurse the drink deliberately, so that it would last a long while. From about the middle of my freshman year until I graduated, this was how I comported myself.

I discovered that my quasi- teetotalism had become the subject of comment, partly because I was a prominent student. I had not made a big deal about it, but I could often be seen at one of the favorite bars around town talking with people while sipping my iced tea or coffee, even when they were drinking beer. What surprised me was that it was the subject of hostility and ridicule among the "party crowd", who accused me of either being a prig or a hypocrite. I was either neurotic for not imbibing a great deal, or secretly hitting the sauce. I finally realized that they had a stake in thinking that everyone did it, or that those that didn't were dorks. Otherwise, their drunkenness might reflect badly on them.

Thus, it is often the case that those who are overly indulgent attack those with greater self- control, to justify themselves........
