Maybe WSTL has developed the solution to the problem??? Didn't someone post a while back that WSTL was coming out with some new technology?

Imagine if WSTL had the solution...Look out SCMR..We'll make you look cheap!

<"None of us has a solution to get DSL to the end" of the fiber lines, says
Amy McIntosh, president and chief executive of Bell Atlantic Corp.'s
data unit. Still, Ms. McIntosh says, she is confident the problem will be
solved soon. "

Alcatel Vice President Paul Segre says a commercial-grade model should
be available in about six weeks. SBC, anxious to push ahead, began using
test units in January and says they work fine. Bell Atlantic, another
customer, won't deploy the terminals until field tests are finished around
midyear, Bell Atlantic figures.>

Michael, thanks for the link. Lately I've been wondering how those too far from the CO and/or getting POTS via SLC-96 were going to tap into ADSL. Fiber is good for you!

Thinking just a bit further into the future to more true broadband (bidirectional Mbit/s range) I believe both DSL and cable will come up against the same fundamental challenge: Bringing the big pipe (fiber) closer to the consumer/customer. From there the beautiful thing about DSL is the lower equipment cost to go that last mile. 8-)

Regards.
