paul,

Are you a geophysics? If so correct if I am wrong, but wasn't it the famous Lord Kelvin who tried to predict the age of the earth by how long it has cooled and how the temperature varies towards the earth's mantle. Unrelated to this is the yearly cooling of the surface layer that all of living in the northern climates know about, as one must dig a foundation deep enough to have a fairly constant ground temperature that is not to be influenced by the winter temperatures. In the borehole study they went a wee bit deeper,<VBG> and I am sure that they waited a while before recording the temperature.

I don't know enough about the science to judge it's validity. Do you really know enough yourself? I myself wouldn't be quick to judge it's merits until I really have the facts about the science, i.e., see how the study is reviewed by the scientists' peers.
