Quantum Corp., the No. 2 maker of computer disk drives, said it will cut about 900 workers in its DLT tape division in Colorado Springs, or about 37 percent of the workforce, and move manufacturing to Malaysia to cut costs.

About 400 of the fired workers are regular employees and 500 are temporary workers, from a total of 2,429 in the company's DLT & Storage Systems Group. The cuts will be made in stages throughout the year.
