Not running a Dual Processor. However I am pretty pleased with the new Athlon chips from AMD. Intel and AMD are putting on some kinda show this week out in Palm Springs. Over on ZD net there was an article and some postings about Intel VS AMD. I wrote this little adaptation of the old song "Hot Rod Lincoln". Just for fun.

My pappy said, 'Son, you're gonna drive me t' Intel ...
If you don't quit burnin that - Chip ... From ... Hell!'

Well, you've heard the story of the hot chip race,
When the Athlon and the Pentium were settin' the pace.
That story's true I'm here to say,
Cause I was a'surfin' that Model A.

It's got a Floating Point Engine that's really gigged out;
That Superscalar Pipeline makes you wanna shout.
Three Independent Pipelines and uses them all;
A High Performance Cache, just won't stall.

It's got a split level dual port cache
Scalable bus, just won't crash
800MHZ and I'm not scared,
Technology's good, and the cooling is fair.

We surfed outta Palm Springs late one night;
With all that power we could hack-um right.
We were surfin out on a T1 Line,
Passin' packets like they were lost in time.

Then, all of a sudden, in the wink of an eye,
a Pentium hacker shot one by.
The remark was made, "That's the chip for me."
But, by then, the fading bits wuz all you could see.

Well, the fellers ribbed me for bein' behind,
So I started to make that Athlon unwind.
Took the cover off the case and, man alive,
I clocked it on up into overdrive.

Well, I wound it up to a gig plus 10;
Melted the ears right off the end.
Had a blower glued right to the chip;
I said, "That's all there is - and I let-er-rip.

Now the fellas thought I'd lost my mind;
I was gonna chase that hacker in real time.
They said, "Slow down, I see spots."
The lines on the screen just looked like dots.

I Shot out through fiber, didn't get stuck;
I crossed my fingers just for luck -
With no guard bands, I could boast;
The guy beside me was white as a ghost.

Smoke was rollin' outta the back
When I started to gain on that Pentium Hack
I knew I could catch him and hoped I could pass
But when I did I'd be short on cache.

There were flames comin' from out of the side;
You could feel the tension; man, what a ride.
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly"
And the Pentium pulled over and let me by.

All of a sudden the core started crashin;
The temperature rose and my ram was trashin.
I looked at the screen and my heart just fell;
The FBI was after my Chip From Hell.

Well they arrested me and put me in jail.
I called my pop to make my bail.
He said, 'Son, you're gonna drive me t' Intel,
If you don't quit burnin that - Chip ... From ... Hell!'

TLC,

If you move to W2K, watch out for Matrox multi-monitor cards. Apparently they use graphics library function calls that are NOT supported by W2K. I tried one about 3 months ago and it wouldn't work. After researching it, I found out about the function calls.

I then bought an additional graphics card for my system and it runs great! W2K works well too.

Regards,

Dan.
