In the "Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons", which I received in the mail TODAY, the lead article is about bone morphogenic proteins (BMP's or OP-1 for newbies)!!!

Here is a brief exerpt:

"The Role of Human Bone Morphogenetic Proteins in Spinal Fusion (J Am Acad Orthop Surg 2000;8:3-9)

Abstract: The attainment of a stable arthrodesis is critical to the successful management of some types of spinal disorders. Autologous iliac-crest bone graft has been the most commonly utilized substance associated with predictable healing in spinal fusion applications. Although alternative graft substances exist, these have not been shown to be as uniformly effective in achieving spinal fusion. Because of the morbidity associated with bone autograft harvest, there is increasing interest in alternative graft substances and especially in the osteoinductive abilities of BMPs. Several animal models have demonstrated that BMP-containing allograft or synthetic carrier medium is as effective as or superior to autograft bone in promoting spinal fusion. Furthermore, the limited number of human trials utilizing BMPs to treat nonunions in the appendicular skeleton indicate that the results found in animal models will be reproducible in the clinical setting."

I apologize for any typo's since I typed this in myself.

If anyone would like a copy of the article, I will be happy to E-mail it to them for full review.

BTW the "Journal of the Academy..." is published by the AAOS and is an excellent journal meant to keep both orthopaedic surgeons and residents abreast of the latest developments in orthopaedic surgery. The article itself is great if you want to know the background as well as future applications of BMP's/OP-1.

This is absolutely phenomenal timing for CBMI as this is the LEAD article in a MAJOR orthopaedic journal!

Norton, I find your remarks insulting. I posted a factual report. You can do with it what you will, but I resent the implication that what I posted is not factual. I even explained in my post why I thought Sturza changed his rating to a sell. Since you don't seem to know who Sturza is, I suggest that you proceed with caution where biotechs are concerned. The Sturza Medical Investment Letter is one of the most influential biotech advisory services. He faxes his reports every Thursday evening to his subscribers. I frequently don't agree with his conclusions, but it is worth knowing what they are if you are going to be investing in this sector.
