James, you continue to amaze me with the depth of your digging. Good work.

Now then, the talking heads on CNBC were at it again this morning making ugly faces and wisecracks about Ciena. Folks, don't let this upset you. They get paid big bucks for a performance, not for their analytical skills.

From the catbird seat, I see Ciena firing on all eight cylinders, and it sounds like a hyper-tuned Chevy big block.

The rumored new customer that I referenced in a previous post has been confirmed as a big fish (Qwest, maybe). A real catch.

Next - Addressing "Could Ciena's LightWork's product be addressing these speed of light latency limits?" Let's get real. Who cares. Current technology can transmit the equivalent of the entire Library of Congress in less than one second. The real risk here is overcapacity - too much bandwith, if that is even thinkable. But wait, think about the concept of bandwidth on demand. Neat idea. Here and now. Enron has just announced that they will commence brokering telecom bandwidth on demand in real time. Mr G, you want productivity, here it comes. Thank you Ciena.

Bandwidth on demand will greatly reduce the tendency for overbuilding, and the subsequent crash as we periodically have seen in the semiconductor sector. The future is rosy indeed for optical networking, and Ciena is the leader. No question.

Regards,

Jack
