RESEARCH ALERT - Qualcomm raised

NEW YORK, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Prudential Securities said analyst Pete Peterson raised his
rating on Qualcomm Inc. (NasdaqNM:QCOM - news) to strong buy from accumulate,
following the company's upbeat analyst meeting.

-- said raised the 2000 earnings forecast to $1.11 a share from $1.02 a share, and raised the 2001 earnings forecasat to $1.63
a share from $1.35 a share.

-- said Qualcomm's opportunity in China could be large.

-- said the sale of the handset business should place gross margins above 60 percent for the long-term and keep operating
margins in the low- to mid-40 percent range.

-- said believes wireless industry has entered an era in which new applications and systems integration will be more important
than just pure connectivity.

-- said several catalysts could help the stock, such as the announcement of Chinese license contracts, progress on the
reallocation of spectrum in Europe from an analog network to a CDMA (code division multiple access) network.

-- shares of Qualcomm gained five to 135 in morning trading on Nasdaq.
