Kent: The money manager is only partially right. He probably has a little training in traditional math and statistics (standard undergraduate math courses in business school are quite easy). The traditional math usually work in the standard markets. However, at the unusual markets, such as critical turning points, the traditional math and statistics do not work. The unusual market conditions can be described by the modern mathematics for non-linear, complex systems (auch as Chaos, Fractal, Complexity) a lot better than the traditional undergraduate math. Julius
