Bombardier Welcomes Singapore to the NFTC Program
FEBRUARY 23, 2000
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Bombardier Aerospace, Defence Services joined
the Government of Canada today to welcome Singapore into the NATO
Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) Program.

As a lead-in to Asian Aerospace 2000 being held in Singapore from
Feb. 22 - 25, 2000, the Government of Singapore announced today
that it intends to be a participant in the program. Once the
negotiations are completed, Singapore will be the fourth
international participant in the program along with Denmark, the
United Kingdom and Italy. Jacques G. Auger, president, Bombardier
Aerospace, Defence Services said, "The participation of Republic
of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) in NFTC is a very welcome and
significant milestone for the program. Singapore is the first
non-NATO nation to join the program. This additional
international endorsement of NFTC is very important to us. We
anticipate that there will be other NATO and non-NATO air forces
who will also commit in the next few months."

The RSAF will send 120 students to the program over the course of
the next twenty years. They will take the advanced jet (Phase
III) and fighter lead-in (Phase IV) portions of the program. The
Singapore students will have completed their basic flying training
at their independent training operation in western Australia.

NFTC has been in the implementation (preparation for training)
phase since the signing of the contract with the Canadian
Department of National Defence in Nov. 1997. The program is a
cooperative endeavour between government and industry to train air
force pilots. The flying instruction will be provided by air
force instructor pilots from the participating nations while the
Bombardier-led industry team will provide fully serviced aircraft,
flight simulators, ground school training as well as the airfield
and specified support services.

The NFTC program has been modelled on the Canadian Aviation
Training Centre (CATC) near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba which has
been run by Bombardier Aerospace for the past seven years. CATC
has successfully demonstrated that a government and industry team
working together can meet the high standards of air force training
and realize the savings of privatization.
