Tom, if price earnings ratios get back to historic average levels, that would mean a 70 percent drop for many companies, and a 90-99 percent drop for many tech companies. That would take us well back before 97. Probably back before Abelson's first prediction of the Big One.

The war will be over and the bulls will win if earnings rise to meet the expectations of the past few years. For example, Amazon will have to earn money. Until the companies actually deliver on promises expected by investors, the war is still very much on.
