The year that I turned 7, this was number 1 for quite awhile. Imagine me, a little fellow, out with my parents and paternal grandparents on a Sunday, at the Oakland Inn, a old- fashioned family style restaurant, that served fried chicken on platters and had three bean salad. We are waiting for a table at the bar, my three younger brothers fussing in various ways, and I hear in the distance a jukebox, playing Bobby Vinton, just as an enchanting girl with blonde hair crosses my vision:

BLUE VELVET
Bobby Vinton
(Bernie Wayne/Lee Morris)

She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet was the night
Softer than satin was the light
From the stars
She wore blue velvet
Bluer than velvet were her eyes
Warmer than May her tender sighs
Love was ours
Ours a love I held tightly
Feeling the rapture grow
Like a flame burning brightly
But when she left, gone was the glow of
Blue velvet
But in my heart there'll always be
Precious and warm, a memory
Through the years
And I still can see blue velvet
Through my tears
