Making Connections 2000: NABA Broadcasting
Forum and Annual General Meeting Coronado

NABA will hold its Broadcasting Forum and Annual
General Meeting at Coronado Springs Resort (Lake
Buena Vista) Orlando, Fla. Hosted by Disney/ABC.

Jeffrey Cole (Center for Communication Policy at UCLA)
will present UCLA's business policy study for the
Internet:Changing the future of broadcasting and
communications. This landmark study will look at the impact
of PCs and the internet on television.

Media trials and tribulations: Broadcast justice as news
and entertainment will feature a panel discussion on
celebrity trials from the angles of national libel and slander
laws and freedom of speech. With moderator Tony
Scapillati (CBRA), June Grasso (Court TV), Dan Henry
(CBC) and Jorge Islas (TV Azteca).

On the ground floor: Street-front studios bring the news
alive will look at the dynamic Manhattan street scene that's
now considered an essential production element for morning
shows in the US. Jacques de Suze (ChumCity
International), Steve Fastook (NBC), and Don Roy King
(The Early Show, CBS), with moderator Rich Wolf (ABC).

Electronic cinema: The next frontier is a presentation on
electronic cinema and TV production using the new
1080/1920/16:9/24-frame electronic film production system,
with Michael Blanchard (Lucasfilm), Randall Paris Dark
(HD Vision), and Steve Wynn (SONY Electronics).
Making Dolby™ 5.1: Marrying pictures and sound is an
update on Dolby Digital mixing for theatrical releases and
titles mastered for DVD. With Darcy Antonellis (Warner
Bros.).

In The changing world of sports: HDTV and an Olympic
year assessment, panelists Larry Barbatsoulis (CBS),
Masaru Ikeo (NHK), and Rich Wolf (ABC) have been
invited to talk about how wide screen, high definition TV with
CD-quality sound will lead to a complete reinvention of
television. With a special Olympic year assessment by
Amaury Daumas (OTI).

Confirmed speakers include David Bond (University of
British Columbia) who will look at globalization, trade, and
new media and what they will mean for television
broadcasters; Meryl Marshall (Academy of Television Arts
and Sciences) who has been asked to look at the ongoing
issue of "runaway productions" and the impact they're having
on broadcasting in North America; and Joseph Del Riego
(SATMEX) who will speak about new initiotives in Latin
American broadcasting.

Kevin Young (Walt Disney Attractions), designer of the
Epcot© Millennium Celebration, a year-long extravaganza
of top shows and entertainment from around the world, will
also speak.
