Diamond, Hands free access with a Voice User Interface (VUI) should be available soon. GM's Onstar should introduce their new Virtual Advisor service this year. It will allow you to make calls from your car with one touch of a button. Then only your voice is needed. GMGC will provide their magicTalk platform to allow you to make calls, access your e-mail & have it read to you, along with internet access to select information based on preferences you set (Et AL). AOL will provide content for the internet access. I believe there will be a microphone in the visor to speak into. IMO, it will be a robust solution that will allow folks to take care of business while keeping their eyes on the road & their hands on the wheel. FWIW, QCOM may be a part of this deal too. Bell Atlantic (CDMA based) was chosen to set up a national network of wireless telephone service for its OnStar communications service. Onstar plans on offering full Onstar access in a handheld phone which is where I see QCOM being involved. here are my thoughts on this connection.Message 12853788 Also FWIW, QCOM is also involved with GMGC via WirelessKnowledge's Revolv service. GMGC's magicTalk platform, or VUI, is slated to be implemented into the Revolv service sometime this year. The VUI is more than speech recognition, it is an interactive platform that you use naturally spoken language to operate the entire service. No commands to memorize or extensive training is necessary to use the system. QCOM could create a competing product to the Onstar system via WK IMHO. They have the SnapTrack GPS chip & the VIU with GMGC. They could look to MSFT (the other half of WK) to provide internet content & other services. WK has a host of the major wireless carriers on board with WK (for the business application Revolv), so it could be available to just about all cell phone users if/when a service can be offered. Ford & Yahoo are working on their form of telmatics as well as MOT & others. GMGC has other solutions to providing voice access with your cell phone as well. It may not be happening as fast as you like, but it is happening. w2
