Is there any grandfather rules? If we exchanges NNC with ALA on takeover, we do not need to adjust the foreign content % until we actually sell ALA.

Say my RRSP 100% is in NNC and I exchanges it with ALA. 100% of my portfolio is then in foreign. I think that I do not need to do anything until I sell ALA. Besides, foreign context is based on book value not current market value.

Just a thought!

Doug,

On the RRSP side, I have been through this once before. ( af couple of years back) As far as Gestapo Canada is concerned,
the 20% rule applies to equities at "purchase". If I had my
full 20% foreign content ( and do ), an ALA for NN stock swap would not mean I had to get rid of any foreign equity to get down to 20%.

If I had 0% and the swap brought me up to 10%, I could only
fill another 10% to get to the 20%.

Confusing??? you bet, but that's Revenue Canada

As you see Doug, you start discussion without even knowing the facts.
