The SP futures broke the low of the year. We are now in uncharted territory, and the trend is most definitely down.

I think it's likely that a severe NASDAQ tank (50% or more) may cause a recession, but not much more in the short to medium term. In the long term I think we are in real danger of a deflationary wave similar to Japan in the 90's. When the enormous over-investments in internet and communications infrastructure (funded by abundant IPO money) start slowing down, a lot of people will find themselves out of work.
