MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) announced that it has presented Best Business Partner Awards to 11 of its information services vendor partners, recognizing excellence in service, leadership and execution in 1999.

"Target Corporation is committed to recognizing business partners who have performed above and beyond our expectations," said Vivian Stephenson, Target Corporation executive vice president and chief information officer. "Each winner has gone to extraordinary lengths to help us provide world-class service and achieve success."

Awards were given to the following companies: ATS Money Systems; Cardinal Solutions; Compaq; Datatec; Dell Computer Corporation; Elo TouchSystems; IBM; ICL Retail Systems; Integrated Software Solutions; MCI Worldcom; and Syntegra. The Best Business Partner Award winners were distinguished as being leaders in three categories -- Service Stability, Superior Leadership and Execution Excellence. It is the fourth consecutive year the company has bestowed Best Business Partner Awards.

Service Stability

The Service Stability category honors business partners using the following criteria: provides solid service in multiple platforms on a consistent basis; streamlines processes; communicates efficiently; and assists in becoming a "standards-based" organization. ICL Retail Systems was presented the award for its support and application development services for Point Of Sale (POS) systems. Its ability to streamline development processes and implement checkpoints resulted in excellent quality and stability of POS application releases.

Superior Leadership

Judging for the Superior Leadership category is based on the following qualifications: takes accountability for projects; demonstrates retail business knowledge; assists in reducing costs; exhibits effective time management; is detail oriented; shows a high degree of professionalism; and displays a positive attitude. Honorees include ATS Money Systems, Cardinal Solutions, Compaq, IBM and MCI Worldcom.

ATS Money Systems was honored with this award for its unique business solutions, creative genius, personal commitment and team partnership. Its work was instrumental in improving productivity at cash counters and proved to be one of Target Corporation's most valuable and dependable business partners throughout the year.

Cardinal Solutions received the award for its assistance in the development of a 3D PPS application, the 3D interface and rewrite of Mervyn's California WMS system. The company's abilities to understand Target Corporation processes and provide specialized knowledge with a commitment to deliver high quality products were key to the development and installation of these products.

With a high degree of professionalism and a flexible, team-orientated approach, Compaq coordinated many new successful system upgrades to garner the award. It consistently demonstrated its knowledge of Target Corporation to meet specific requirements and provide key business solutions in a timely manner.

As a key partner in the POS 2000 project, IBM received this award for its commitment to a high level of performance, retail knowledge and flexible work ethic. The rollout of more than 20,000 POS terminals were completed in record time. Its outstanding job in servicing POS was a model in execution and quality.

MCI Worldcom, the principle provider of long distance and data network services for Target Corporation, received its award for simplifying and streamlining internal and external processes while facing increased performance goals. While executing the array of projects, MCI Worldcom optimized cost, quality and delivery to develop customized solutions and deliver extraordinary value.

Execution Excellence

The third category, Execution Excellence, goes to business partners with the following attributes: anticipates and communicates problems up front; meets deadlines; complies with standards, policies and procedures; and exceeds expectations for delivery, cost, and quality of products. Those awarded include Datatec, Dell Computer Corporation, Elo TouchSystems, Integrated Software Solutions and Syntegra.

Datatec was presented with the award based on the successful implementation of Ethernet-based registers in nearly 500 Target stores. The high quality project plan was cost effective and completed ahead of schedule.

Dell Computer Corporation has been a strong partner to Target Corporation as it flawlessly executed product end-of-life changes, sign and label rollouts, and pricing management requirements. Strong leadership, planning and execution garnered Dell the award specifically for its ability to identify alternatives and deliver high-quality results rapidly during critical times.

Another award in this category goes to Elo TouchSystems for its timely role in the installation and deployment of more than 1,800 gift registry monitors. With low costs, Elo TouchSystems met an aggressive schedule with urgency as they dramatically decreased touch screen monitor failures.

Throughout the year, Integrated Software Solutions has been a key partner to Target Corporation with the POS 2000 project and POS credit interface conversion. Integrated Software Solutions was granted the award for providing outstanding service as they converted the existing POS credit interface into a Web-enabled application.
