El - I sold 1/3 of my DELL position last year at 45 and 47... at the same time I sold about 1/3 of my CPQ position, at prices from 49 all the way down to 34... after that, I decided to just ride it out on both DELL and CPQ although looking back it may have been a foolish decision, since those two now have squatter's rights on the kennel. I think CPQ has good upside from here (have I said that before? I think so) in the fairly near term. I think DELL will struggle in a range for most of 2000 much as CPQ did last year. So, applying the lesson I learned from CPQ - that it would have been better to sell earlier, big changes in corporate strategy take a LONG time to have an effect on share price - and the prognosis for DELL - they have not yet begun to address the issues facing them in their core business, and as a result the share price will remain depressed until there are significant changes in perception - it would make sense to unload a big part of my DELL holding now and put it into a faster-moving stock, but CPQ could hammer into the high 30's any time.

May not be a fully baked strategy but it's the best I can do on a friday afternoon as I get ready to leave the cool embrace of the city on the bay and back to steamy subtropical Houston...

No El-- I do not talk up DELL. Holding one boxmaker is more than enough. Made a few bux and bailed MUEI too. It is a little much listening to how well this sick dog is doing and how great things are! I only play DELL a little and do not hold it. At least if you buy and it sinks there is a chance it will recover,, not so here. Soon it looks like you can say " but held your CPQ from 33 all the way down to 22" Will it hold 22? Doubtful... Certainly will not beat the old 51 this year but it may beat the old 18,,,
