Hi Dan,Sheesh, James, on the semi-cynical political front, the Democrats are semi honest to what ideals? The Democrats are all over the place. True, but the party, in general, tends to view excessive nannyism, regulatory intervention, and promotion of class warfare as a legitimate role of government.Republicans are pretty consistently pro business, but of course there's always going to be debate about which business they're pro. I consider the GOP to be nothing more than Democrat Lite, tastes not so great and only slightly less filling. They talk the talk, on occasion, but rarely walk the walk. And the theocratic social conservative wing leaves me cold.Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican too, you know. Pretty popular in the public mind, also. Not in mine. I consider him to have been one of our worst presidents. Then, there's the eternal conundrum of free markets, what is the sound of one company competing? Oh, come on. LOL! How 'bout the whooshing sound of the old USSR collapsing or the crash of the Berlin Wall? MSFT didn't get where they are by force or political favor. And if they supposedly have no competition, then why all the noise about W2K being an outdated piece of inferior junk that will sink in the seas of the rapidly evolving new technology paradigm? If you'd like a little entertainment on the subject, you should check out the March "Wired", where there's an article about Joel Klein goes to Silicon Valley looking for someone among the "whining billionaire pseudo-libertarian titans of Silicon Valley" willing to stand up publicly for "structural remedies". Closest he got to a commitment was from Steve Jobs, who said he'd do it if Andy Grove did too. I saw that and did find it amusing. BTW, the rhetorical flourish of last nights post was produced after indulging in a fairly well lubricated night on the town. In the sober light of day, I still kinda like it, though. :-)Of course, Ellison wasn't on the list, everybody thinks he's nuts. I don't follow Ellison that closely. Isn't he into an opulent lifestyle, martial arts, and banging his secretaries? Regards, JB
