Stephen, nice article on Linux, Intel, thanks.

As far as Linux has progressed, I still have this 24X7 "fear" of it. By that, I mean, who's going to be the first, second and third lines of defense for Linux run systems when they fail? I think Red Hat takes on maintenance contracts for Linux boxes. Who else? When Dell or IBM ship boxes with Linux on them, do their customer services people answer the phone on all problems, HW or SW? Used to be that way. It's when the first line guy can't tell if it's HW or SW, and which flavor of which, that it gets tricky.

Maybe Rudedog has the answers in this regard about Linux.

Tony

Stephen - Re: "Is Intel Doing an End-Run Around Microsoft"

The author is an idiot.

He never mentioned Microsoft writing software and OS's to support CPUS that COMPETE with Intel:

1. MIPS - NT
2. AMD - 3DNOW
3. Alpha NT
4. Power PC - Macintosh

Microsoft's business is to sell as much software as they can - any way they can.

Intel's business is to sell as many CPUs as they can - ANY WAY THEY CAN.
