FEBRUARY 18: Santa clara-based hardware and software design, development and consulting firm Digital-X Networks Pvt Ltd has tied up with Satyam Infoway and Syndicate Bank for products and solutions. Pricing is a key differentiating factor, with the company's packages priced at a fraction of what the competition is offering.

The company's managing director (Asia Pacific) Sanjay A Nayak told The Financial Express that Syndicate Bank had decided buy and implement a couple of products, solutions and network servers from the company to integrate its branches across the country. Initially, the bank would wire its strategic outlets together and later the network would be expanded throughout the country. "Our name was referred to the bank by its technology consultants with the Indian Institute of Science," he said. Digital-X was also in discussion with Satyam Infoway to sell its Nova Proxy Server, a software which would facilitate multiple users in a single Internet account. "We sold over 25,000 copies of the product at a unit cost of Rs 3,995 to Satyam Infoway," he said.

Nayak said the company was looking at a Nasdaq listing within a year. However, he declined to comment on the size of the float. He said the proceeds would be used in the development of various products plus expanding the company's reach across the globe.

He said, the company was planning to introduce various products that support digital subscriber link (DSL) technology. "With our DSL product -- Netvision 2000 which is a heterogeneous, web-based management software -- we are trying to give HP (Open View) a run for its money," Nayak said. The company would globally launch Netvision 2000 in May with a price tag of Rs 75,000 (Open View is priced at Rs 7.8 lakh).

Digital-X has a strategic alliance with Cobalt of US to manufacture Cobalt Cube, an Internet server product. "It is a very competitively priced product (Rs 75,000) against its traditional counterpart (Rs 3.5 lakh)," he said.

The company has recently entered into a strategic alliance with the Kerala-based NeST Systems & Technologies to design and manufacture chips. "We are working on various projects in association with NeST to implement networking products. We have identified NeST as our national system integrator in India. Through this alliance, we are trying to offer high quality service and products at low prices," Nayak said.

The company recently set up offices in Bangalore and Singapore and plans to open more offices in the Middle East with a focus on Dubai and Bahrain markets. Its products range from networking switches to ethernet cards. It also designs and develops chips and technology around them for clients like Cisco and HP.

Digital-X posted a turnover of $20 million during the last fiscal and was targeting $30 million during the current year to reach $50 million by 2003.
