Short treatise on eoe delays.

Typically, whenever a product, or in this case data, changes hands, someone skims off some change or introduces more overhead. Did you ever wonder why your 50k modem never receives 56 k into your computer? Overhead.

Speed of transmission has little to do with it. That's fundamental physics. Electricity and light travel at the speed of light, albeit slowed somewhat by the transfer medium. The issue is the overhead, and maintenance. Reduce the overhead and maintenance, and offer one stop shopping and the world will beat a path to your door.

>>As for the bandied about "delay" at the E-O interface? Come, come. This is not a big deal.<<

I am not sure what you are saying here. Do you mean it is solved? Or it will be soon? Products presently being shipped/used? Just trying to flesh out your meaning here.

>>The up and comer that is in direct competition with fiber is satellite. Now there's some delay issues.<<

In the interests of not only knowing about Ciena suppliers, customers, and in-sector competitors, I am always interested in competition coming from other "angles".
What companies in this satellite sector would you suggest looking at? Thanks in advance.
