I think that you have described the main cause of concern for Greenspan. It isn't so much how many houses were built this month as it is this imprudent speculation in the market.

Much to his chagrin, even raising interest rates appears to have little more than an exasperated pause in the continued buying pattern of the American public.

The fundamentals may not be there for an outrageous rise in the stock prices, but as long as they're making money, the revelry will continue.
