I was actually not arguing at all, but simply trying to have a conversation. Be that as it may...

Cultures don't necessarily fail exclusively or primarily because of a decline in moral fiber. However, to dismiss the link between societal principles and what I call "natural law" and the success of a nation is also without merit. The same principles which bind a family, also bind a nation.

Traditions are built and held together by principles which are like social contracts. These principles are not as tangible as the constitution of the country, instead they are codified in human behavior where rituals are passed on from generation to generation. They also constitute the deeper structures of the national realities of a culture.

A nation has an identity composed of the collective identity of it's people and their beliefs, practices and values. Systems can be acted on and structures can be manipulated, but an identify is very difficult to erase.
