Small number of 800-MHz Rambus chips show up on spot market
By Jack Robertson
Electronic Buyers' News
(02/18/00, 03:56:13 PM EDT)

A surprising memory chip showed up this week in the spot market: Direct Rambus DRAMs.

Paul Myers, DRAM buyer for the American IC Exchange, Aliso Viejo, Calif., said a limited number of 800-MHz Direct RDRAM RIMM modules were offered at $700 to $750 each.

Since supply right now is limited for the highest speed Direct RDRAM, Myers hadn't expected the part to hit the spot market so soon. He believed the chips came from an OEM who deferred building systems with the new memory and was getting rid of stock.

Not unexpectedly, however, AICE said it has seen limited quantities of 600-MHz Direct RDRAMs showing up in the commodity market. Myers said this is the speed where chip makers can get the highest yields, but where market demand is lowest.

If you will notice JACK ROBERTSON - LONG TIME NEGATIVE FUDSTER of RAMBU$ has tried to put a negative spin on this occurrence also, but I believe he is just guessing, and that this is EXTREMELY GOOD NEWS for RAMBU$!

Just my $.02

Hi Glenn

"Like Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise says:

"This is going to be BIG....REALLY BIG"
Nah. that wasn't James T who said that, it was Dick Dork!!

On a more serious note, I nearly suffered a heart attack:
I fired up my machine a few moments ago to see the DOW down 295 and NAS down 147, and that at just 5 mins after opening!!. When I came round, I noticed the caption at the top of the page about Washingtons birthday!
Gee, they shouldn't do things like that......
