Jim,

I thought I would post these for you since you are such a great Gateway salesman. ;)

These responses are from Computers.com. People who have puchased computers can rate them here. These are a few responses about the Gateway Select line.

""BEST PC I HAVE EVER OWNED"
I AM SO DAMNED IMPRESSED BY THIS PC THAT IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY .. BEAT MY PENTIUM 600 IN EVERY SINGLE BENCHMARK THAT I RAN.( AND I RAN THEM ALL) FEEL LIKE I NEVER NEED AN0THER PC FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE BEST JOE

---

"Perfect 10"
I just love this monster !!! I bought one Dell Dimension XPS T600r ($1299) last week for my wife and I bought this one for myself (to replace my K6 233 from IBM). I couldn't believe Gateway Select 600 could beat up Dell PIII 600 so badly. Well, Dell let me return the PC promptly. I have to say Dell has great service (better than Gateway) and if one day I decide to replace my PC again, I might buy from Dell. I wish I have more choices from Dell though. Anyway, with the same money, I bought another Gateway Select 600 for my wife. Buy it !!!

"Excellent package and price"
I bought the select 600 with the vx900 monitor, dvd, cd-rw, 128mb ram, 20 gig hdd, 16mb Voodoo 3 3000, right out of the box it was perfect, fastest pc i've EVER used. I had originally ordered a 32mb geforce256 graphics card with a P3 processor that later I found out had some "issues", or that the card did rather, I ended up waiting for 3 weeks for my original order with no word of what the hold up was, finally I found a "friend" that told me the p.c. I ordered hadn't even been put into production because of the problems with that particular card and processor. I ended up cancelling my first order and replacing it with the select 600, I was really ticked off at the sales person who got my sale who never informed me of the problems with my selections, but I didn't mind giving it to someone else who actually cared about my interests. It wasn't gateway's fault, it was the sales person's. He almost ruined their reputation with me! I couldn't decide if I wanted Dell or Gateway, obviously the two best brands on the market. The reason I went Gateway is because pound for pound they came up a little cheaper and Dell didn't offer the Athlon that blows the p3 away! My system is killer, no quirks or anything. Thumbs up. Just be very thorough with the salesman!"

Dell doesn't have Athlons, but they DO have Willy HYPE! Imagine how many sales that will bring in!!

Oh yeah, speaking of Gateway, they have a commercial on TV where this guy buys a "T5" computer and gloats about it only to find out on the way home the "T6" has already come out. At the end, the commercial used to say Gateway offers the PIII and the Intel/PIII logo would on the bottom left. But yesterday, I saw the commercial again and at the end the commercial said Gateway offers the powerful AMD Athlon processors and the AMD/Athlon logo was on the bottom left!

Jim:

No rational being would purchase a PWeeIII given the price/performance differences outlined here...2 million "spry Athys" in Q1 looks like a lock to me if this listing even nearly accurately reflects the current retail environment!
