So the press tells us the reserve "hasn't been tapped since the Gulf War." I guess I was hallucinating, but I seem to remember during the last election year, 1996, Clinton engineered SPR sales that lasted through 1998. I guess someone just fabricated this link, too. (Or at least the major news services don't seem to have access to it.) fe.doe.gov PS I don't blame Clinton for wanting OPEC to pump more oil. I do blame Clinton for damaging the longer term stratgeic interests of the US, time and again, for his personal political benefit. That's a lot of what this bubble is all about.
