I have a Motorola StarTac and it has no effect whatsoever on either my friends NEC monitor or on my Viewsonic flatpanel regardless of whether it is on a call or not. (I just tried it both ways) Does the StarTac use TDMA or CDMA, and would that make a difference?

Ted,

you all may want to be thinking what effects the radiation has on your brains

Exactly. They take this stuff very seriously in Europe, where they use earphone extensions. If the phone is worn properly on the belt, the radiation only affects other areas of the body which are far less important for a true computer geek.

ted,

OT

while you and Tench analyze whether its your cheesy monitor vs his high quality one that's making a difference in the Nokia's radiation impact, you all may want to be thinking what effects the radiation has on your brains

The monitor shielding is important. While monitor is sensitive to magnets, and probably electro-magnetic radiation in general, the monitor itself generates electro-magnetic radiation.

A quality monitor that is shielded better from radiation coming in allows less of it to escape and hit your brain (and eyes).

For computer geeks, the radiation of your monitor is constant, hours per day, while the cell phone is probably only a few minutes per day.
