<<A couple of weeks ago, we had one of those unusual mornings when there has been very heavy fog during the night, followed by extreme cold at dawn... Everything in the world is painted in heavy white frost and resembles an immense wedding cake...>>

Like a hoar frost or rime frost. Neat.

In '69, you Canadians do go by regular years instead of metric years don't you, we had an awesome day. In town there was a temperature inversion that aid on fog like BBQ sauce on ribs. Outside of town it was clear blue skies but everything had a 1/2 inch layer of hoar frost. Like a 1/2 inch of really light snow but on the sides and bottom of everything. Another time I drove 60 miles in fog and had 1/2 inch of frost on the front of the rear view mirrors.
