Well, the anthropologists said that craniometry had a bad reputation, due to misuse. Nevertheless, when you are trying to determine the ethnicity of a skeleton, you've got to use statistics. It has to do with things like the depth of the eye sockets. There's no doubt, looking at photos, that Ainu look more caucasoid than Japanese, and there's also no doubt, looking at Kenniwick man and his ilk, that they don't fit with present-day American Indian cranial morphology.
